Frequently Asked Questions
What is Bisector App?
Bisector App is a compass tool designed for field work. It allows you to capture two compass bearings and automatically calculates the bisector angle, reverse bisector, and line angle between them.
How do I capture a bearing?
Hold your device flat and point it toward your target. Use the camera viewfinder to sight the object, then tap the capture button. Capture two bearings (A and B) to calculate the bisector.
Why does the app need camera access?
The camera provides a live viewfinder so you can accurately sight poles or other objects while capturing compass bearings. No photos are taken or stored.
Why does the app need location access?
Location access enables the compass functionality and allows the app to save GPS coordinates with each capture. This helps you reference where measurements were taken.
How do I view my saved captures?
Tap the history icon to view all your saved captures. You can also view them on a map to see their locations.
How do I export my captures?
In the history view, select the captures you want to export and tap the copy button. The capture data will be copied to your clipboard as formatted text.
How do I delete captures?
In the history view, select the captures you want to remove and tap the delete button. You can also swipe left on individual captures to delete them.
Is my data backed up?
All data is stored locally on your device. If your device is backed up to iCloud or your computer, your captures will be included in that backup.
The compass seems inaccurate. What can I do?
Try calibrating your device's compass by moving it in a figure-8 pattern. Also ensure you're away from magnetic interference such as metal objects, electronics, or power lines.
